Zastron Hot Shot worked hands in glove with Mooifontein school learners and Zastron municipal traffic Department in raising fire awareness to motorist passing by at the intersection close to the school, as well as Mooifontein school learners, and managed to reach out to +/-130 learners including motorists.  With the assistance of the traffic officer who helped  in stopping vehicles for the Team and learner’s fire awareness dissemination and handing out of  Firewise material session, motorists were very much cooperative and gave us their time to listen and eager to get clarity about veldfires. Learners were also cooperative and listened attentively to fire awareness sessions and other activities done by the team. The school learners were rewarded with pencil cases, winter hats and Firewise material during the lessons learnt question session.

Golden Hotshot team integrated 2 neighbouring farm schools (Nooitkondenken and Madrit) including their adopted farm school – Mojalefa Primary next to Clarens. Schools learners were given an opportunity to reveal their talents by competing in fire awareness poems and dramas. The learners impressed us with their creative thinking as they managed to compete on fire awareness poems and they presented their poems very well as prepared.  The best performing school learner was from the adopted school, Mojalefa Primary who was rewarded with a trophy and T shirt, the second and third winning performers were from Madrid and Nooitkondenken and were rewarded with branded T Shirts. +/- 86 school learners including educators got lot of information regarding fire awareness, prevention and safety tips.

Eagles Hot shot team also integrated 3 schools from Senekal, Matwabeng, Mohalatla and Tumisang Primary schools ,where  the school learners were competing in drawing their own Fire Friend or Enemy poster. The school learners participated in drawing of poster showed us their talent, creativity and understanding of what veld fires is all about. We also learnt a lot from lessons presented by learners out of their drawings. Some learners creatively drew things that did not exist in the original fire friend posters, which are relevant to fire being a friend or enemy. It was really good to see talents each learner has especially regarding fires. 4 school learners from different schools who presented according to judges expectations were rewarded with school bags and Firewise material. In this event +/- 210 school learners including educators were reached out with fire awareness safety, impacts and prevention information.

After the fire awareness session the team, learners and educators participated in various competitions such as sack jumping, rope pulling squad drill, puzzle building & fire quizzes from lessons learnt.
